Massage for the nervous system
Request a sessionA Coherence session is massage that works with the nervous system as much as with muscle. Its aim is simple: to let a body that has been under strain return to calm, and learn to stay there.
The session begins in stillness, in a warm and quiet room. The hands come to rest at the base of the skull, then move slowly: the neck, the ears, the collarbone and upper chest, and, with your consent, the abdomen. The pressure is gentle to moderate. Nothing is forced, because a nervous system cannot be hurried into safety.
You are not asked to talk, or to achieve anything. You are invited to receive.
Many people carry tension for so long that they no longer notice it. This work is for them: people who give out all day, people who have lived under long pressure, people who find they cannot switch off.
Sarah trained in the Esalen tradition under Ken Holmes at the Churchill Centre, London, in 1996. From 1996 to 2006 she practised as a massage therapist in London, at The Dorchester Spa, the Shambhala Spa at The Metropolitan Hotel and the spa at the Hilton Park Lane.
Since 2000 she has also worked as a medical transcriber in neuropsychiatry, for leading neuropsychiatrists. Twenty five years of that work have given her a close knowledge of the brain, the body and the nervous system.
She holds an MA in Psychoanalytic Studies from the University of Essex, and completes advanced training at City Lit, London, in December 2026. She is completing a book, Coherence: The Body as Saviour, from which this practice takes its name.
